Rothesay dog owner given three year pet ban

A ROTHESAY man who failed to provide adequate nutrition for his pet Boxer dog was banned from keeping pets for three years when he appeared at the town’s sheriff court this week.

John Stewart admitted a charge of causing unnecessary suffering, by act or omission, to the animal between October 25 and November 25 last year.

Jim Hannay, defending, said Stewart (50), whose address was given as 17 Glebe Terrace, had taken delivery of the dog from a mainland breeder six months before the offence, but had since lost his job and seen his wife injured in an accident - leading to, in Mr Hannay’s words, “a falling-off in looking after the dog appropriately”.

In addition to the ban, Sheriff Mhairi McTaggart imposed a £140 fine.

Also at Rothesay Sheriff Court on Monday, 17-year-old Sam Allison, address given as 11A Barone Road, admitted taking part in a stand-up fight and committing a breach of the peace in Bellevue Road, Rothesay on March 26.

Stuart McLean (48) was admonished after spending six weeks on remand for breaking a curfew on April 28, having been seen outside his home address at 2 Eden Place, 177 High Street, Rothesay.

Paul Connelly (37), address given as Flat 0/2, 8 Columshill Place, admitted breaching a condition of bail by being within a flat in Rothesay’s Church Lane at 11.35pm on June 10.

Craig MacLachlan (33), address given as 47 Lochearnhead Road, Glasgow, was fined £140 after admitting operating an XBox and TV set at a flat in High Street, Rothesay in such a way as to annoy others, and failing to desist when required to do so by a police officer, on Christmas Eve last year.
