Rothesay church provides community festive cheer

Christmas may be but a distant memory for most of us by now, but news has reached us this week of a small but significant act of generosity on the part of one Rothesay church congregation.

Worshippers at St Paul’s Church in Deanhood Place gave up part of their Christmas Day to cook, serve and host a lunch not only for members of the congregation, but also for those in the community known to the church who would otherwise have spent the day on their own.

Following Christmas morning worship, led by the Rev Michael Evans, more than 30 people went to the adjacent church hall to enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch, organised by Alison G. Clark and her team of helpers, and with entertainment afterwards led by Alison and her husband Ed, the latter dressed as Father Christmas for the occasion.

So successful was the event - the first time the church has held a Christmas Day community lunch - that it will be repeated in 2013, and could become an annual event on the St Paul’s festive calendar.
