Rothesay band plays for supporter Ian - on his 102nd birthday

Commander Ian Hamilton celebrated his 102nd birthday with members of the Rothesay and District novice juvenile pipe band.

Commander Ian Hamilton celebrated his 102nd birthday with members of the Rothesay and District novice juvenile pipe band.

A group of young Bute pipers and drummers travelled to the Erskine home for former service personnel to serenade one of their most faithful supporters - on his 102nd birthday.

The band played Happy Birthday and a selection of tunes as a treat for Commander Ian Hamilton, who moved to Erskine from his home in Ardbeg shortly after his hundredth birthday in 2011.

Jane Gillies from the Rothesay and District Pipe Band said: “Ian has been a supporter of the band for a long time, and we knew his birthday was coming up, so we contacted Erskine and made arrangements to visit on the weekend nearest his birthday.”
