Rare snowfall coats Bute in a carpet of white
A rare snowfall covered Rothesay in a carpet of white on Wednesday morning. This picture was taken from St Brides Road in Ballochgoy.
Bute’s first substantial snowfall of the winter fell in the early hours of Wednesday - coinciding perfectly with the start of local schools’ mid-term break.
Our tour of Rothesay and Port Bannatyne during the morning found no shortage of sledging youngsters - or of mums and dads getting just as much enjoyment out of the rare carpet of white.
By lunchtime, though, the snow had turned to rain, and with temperatures expected to rise further during Wednesday evening and a milder day expected on Thursday, it was beginning to look like the all-too-brief opportunity for snow-related high jinks would quickly become but a distant memory.
