2014 Commonwealth Games Baton

Details of the Queen’s Baton Relay for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games have been announced, and although the baton will not pass through Bute, it makes a couple of close encounters.

On Sunday, July 13, the baton will travel through Argyll and Bute, visiting Appin, Benderloch, Dunbeg, Oban, Kilmartin, Lochgilphead, Furnace, Inveraray, Strachur, Sandbank, and Dunoon. A little closer to home, the baton will also pass through Wemyss Bay on Tuesday, July 15.

Up to 4,000 baton-bearers will have the honour of carrying the baton ahead of the opening ceremony on July 23, including those nominated in recognition of their contributions to local sport, community and youth.
