Port Bannatyne woodland plans are unveiled

Plans to create a new broad-leaved woodland in fields behind Port Bannatyne have been announced this week.

The Bute Estate’s Port Bannatyne Woodland Creation Scheme proposes the creation of some 25.86 hectares of woodland in fields adjacent to Bannatyne Mains Road at the rear of the village.

But one resident of Bannatyne Mains Road, who asked not to be named, told The Buteman: “What people may not have realised is that if this goes ahead the Port will lose a lot of sunlight.

“For example, Bannatyne Mains farm looks as if it will be surrounded by trees. I think the villagers need to wake up to the loss of amenity these trees will cause.”

* More detail in this week’s issue of The Buteman - on sale from Thursday, January 24.
