Parking ban approved for Rothesay prom

IT has been the subject of many a discussion at meetings of the Bute Community Council over the years, but a decision has finally been made: parking on Rothesay’s Esplanade will soon be banned.

Argyll and Bute Council’s Bute and Cowal area committee, meeting on Tuesday in Rothesay’s Eaglesham House, unanimously agreed that bollards be installed either side of the Esplanade, preventing vehicle access.

A Bute Community Council survey last year attracted 617 responses, of which 108 were in favour of allowing parking on the prom, while 509 were opposed.

The bollards, which will be collapsible, will be fitted with padlocks, the keys for which will be held by police, coastguard, fire and ambulance services in the event of an emergency, as well as by council officials.
