Bute FM - the Sound of Bute, as the station is now known - has received Ofcom approval to retain its Community Radio Licence for a further five years.

The station has been serving the community of Bute by broadcasting on 96.5FM since July 2009 and ‘live’ online via their website www.butefm.com, since October 1, 2009.

Managing Director, Iain Morrison, said: “The Station has undergone a significant overhaul both in personnel and procedurally during the last twelve months. A great many people have worked extremely hard to ensure our application to Ofcom [the governing body for TV and Radio broadcasting in the UK] was successful, and we are all thrilled that our efforts in support of our application, and our aims for the future, have been recognized by Ofcom in extending our licence for another five years.”

He added: “This is wonderful news and allows us to build upon the very considerable developments made by the station in the last 12 months.”

Mr Morrison went on to say he believed the appointment of an entirely new board of directors had been pivotal to the improved fortunes of the station, and cited the securing of a major employer, George Hanson Building Contractors Ltd., as the station’s official sponsor.
