Nine youths charged over assault allegation

Nine youths are expected to appear in court following a report of an assault on a 15-year-old boy at Rothesay Joint Campus.

Yesterday, a national newspaper alleged that around a dozen teenagers kicked the boy as he lay on the ground, fracturing his ribs.

A spokesperson from Argyll and Bute Council said: “A police investigation is ongoing and because of this it would be inappropriate to comment.”

Local police inspector Gordon Anderson said: “We can confirm we’re investigating a report of an assault on a 15 year old boy at Rothesay Academy on September 17, 2012.

“Nine male pupils have so far been arrested in connection with the investigation and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
