Seven more Bute good causes received cheques on Saturday totalling £3,200 from Rothesay thrift shop For Bute.

The shop’s volunteers, who have now donated more than £23,000 to local charities and other good causes on the island since being set up in early 2013, handed out donations of £300 to Bute Shinty Club, Bute Wheelers, the Kilchattan Bay Community Orchard and local piper Daniel McDermott, £500 each to Rothesay Brandane AFC and Bute Advice Centre, and £1,000 in match funding to the organisers of the Port Bannatyne Gala Day.

For Bute’s shop in Victoria Street opened its doors in March 2013 with the specific aim of raising money for good causes based solely on the island.

The organisation has also branched out this month by taking on the lease to the tearoom at the town’s Ardencraig Gardens, which opened to the public on May 1.
