Major staffing changes at Rothesay Joint Campus

Eleven members of staff at Rothesay Joint Campus will leave the school at the end of June, while the secondment of campus principal Wendy Brownlie to the council's central education management team has been extended.

A drop in the pupil roll at Rothesay Joint Campus lies behind the decision to reduce the number of senior management posts at the school, according to Argyll and Bute Council.

The posts of campus principal and head of secondary learning and teaching will be amalgamated into a new ‘head teacher of 3–18’ role from the start of the 2014-15 academic year in August.

Six members of staff at the campus - an attendance officer, a clerical assistant, two primary teachers, an additional needs assistant and the secondary head of learning and teaching - will retire at the end of June, while teachers in the English, computing and PE departments will be moving on, as will a depute head teacher.

The secondment of the campus principal, Wendy Brownlie, to the council’s central education management team has been extended, while the current acting principal, John Lawson, will not be returning to the post in August.

A council spokesperson told The Buteman: “The vacancies arising from the retirement of the secondary head of learning and teaching and the extended secondment of the campus principal will be filled by the newly created post of ‘headteacher of 3–18’.

“Amalgamating these two roles in to this newly created post reflects the changing level of pupil demand given the drop in the pupil roll in recent years.

“While a number of the RJC team will not be joining the school again in August, the great majority of the experienced and hard-working staff will be there to look after, teach and support the pupils.”
