Bute singer Aimee Gilmour says the chance to perform at the O2 in London was an “overwhelming” experience.

Aimee, singing under her stage name of Aimee Scarlett, picked up two prizes at the grand final of the Open Mic UK singing competition at IndigO2 on Saturday - the Extreme Exposure award and a share of the MUZU Exposure runner-up prize.

“I knew I was up against some amazing talent,” Aimee, who met 2012 X Factor finalist Lucy Spraggan at the event, told The Buteman.

“I knew that if I didn’t win I could still go away happy.

“I was just really happy to be there, and going away with something when 80-odd people didn’t was fantastic. It was just an overwhelming experience.”

Meanwhile, the competition judges’ feedback on all the finalists has been published on the Open Mic UK website on Tuesday - here’s what they said about Aimee...

“Great swag and confidence. A good start to the show, never easy coming on first. Not convinced this was the best song choice for you however.

“Good and a lovely smile and expression. Confident and competent performance. Could have used the stage a bit more to move around. For future performances you may want to work on your diction; the lyrics were not always clear. A very positive vibe to your performance.”

* We’ll have more of Aimee’s thoughts on her London performance in this week’s issue of The Buteman - on sale from Thursday, January 24. Don’t miss it!
