The United Church of Bute was packed full of excited youngsters on Saturday night for the church’s annual Lighting Up Christmas event.

With groups from across the island taking part, including the Girls’ Brigade, Boys’ Brigade, Achievement Bute and Apple Tree Nursery, the task at hand was to decorate a Christmas tree using hand-made decorations.

With Rev Owain Jones providing a count-down, the children (and their adult helpers) headed off to various corners of the church to get to work. Mr and Mrs Wallace from Rothesay Christian Fellowship were tasked with the difficult job of choosing the best decorated one (with no knowledge of whose tree was whose), and while judging was carried out everyone enjoyed some carol singing led by Mrs Mary Spencer, accompanied on the organ by Mr Tony Spencer.

All that remained was to announce the winners - the children of Rothesay Christian Fellowship - and to head upstairs to enjoy some delicious home-baking provided by ladies of the church.
