The 'beach area' of the swimming pool at Rothesay Leisure Centre has been temporarily closed after some users slipped on 'non-slip' tiles.

The swimming pool at Rothesay Leisure Centre has been partly closed due to health and safety concerns at the newly-refurbished facility.

The baby pool, known as the ‘beach area’, is temporarily out of use after some users slipped on newly-installed tiles - which were meant to be slip-resistant.

A spokesperson for Argyll and Bute Council, which owns and operates the centre, said: “As part of the refurbishment of Rothesay Leisure Centre, the pool area was re-tiled using slip-resistant materials. Since opening, some users have slipped when entering the section known as the ‘beach area’.

“To prioritise the health and safety of both leisure centre visitors and staff, the ‘beach area’ is temporarily out of use while the issue is investigated.

“The council is in discussions with the tiling sub-contractor and the tile manufacturer to find a quick solution, and this is being progressed urgently.

“Meanwhile, the main pool and the rest of the facilities at Rothesay Leisure Centre remain open to the public as normal.”
