Christmas came early to the Black Bull pub in Rothesay on Wednesday - courtesy of a filming visit for an Australian TV food programme.
Vietnamese Australian chef Luke Nguyen visited the island to film a Christmas segment of his new series on British cuisine - and plenty of the Bull’s regulars got into the spirit of the occasion by donning Santa outfits and hats and colourful festive jumpers, while manager Donna Taylor and her staff decorated the premises with holly wreaths, mistletoe, candles and a Christmas tree.
The visit came about through local businessman Iain McKellar of Just Seaweed, who said: “The production team saw a food feature in The Observer with a picture of me and my seaweed, and came over to the island last month.
“I took them for a pint in the Bull, as you do, and they loved the place - they thought it would be ideal for their Christmas feature.”
Though Luke has appeared on TV in Britain, specifically on the Good Food channel, his new series is intended for broadcast in Australia - although the opportunity to showcase Bute to viewers on the other side of the world was one his new Rothesay friends seized with both hands!
