Bute Youth Football’s under-17s took on the island’s emergency services on Sunday afternoon in a charity match to raise funds for local group Light Up Bute and its efforts to brighten up the island.

A large crowd enjoyed an entertaining game, won - against the expectations of most of those watching - by the ‘Bute 999’ team, ably coached by local police constable Sam Lawrie, while a bouncy castle, face painting and other stalls provided a diversion for those not excited by the action on the park.

The game itself was followed by a mammoth penalty shoot-out, with £85 going to eventual winner Billy O’Donnell and £85 to Light Up Bute, whose next event is an ‘end of term’ fair on the Rothesay prom on Sunday, June 29.
