P7 pupils from all three of Bute’s primary schools set aside their books on Thursday and donned swimming, cycling and running gear to take part in the island’s annual primary school triathlon.

The event is always one of the most eagerly-anticipated in the schools’ calendar, and despite some wintry weather pupils from St Andrew’s, North Bute and Rothesay primary schools got stuck in with enthusiasm to a course beginning with eight lengths of Rothesay Leisure Pool and continuing with a cycling and running course around the town’s public park, the Meadows, Charlie’s Park and the King George V playing fields.

Medals were handed out to every pupil as they crossed the line to cheers from their classmates - while some, despite having finished, went back out to run the last few hundred yards to help their friends over the final stretch!

More pictures from the event in the next issue of The Buteman - on sale from Thursday, May 8.
