ScotRail has enabled free wifi on the Class 380 trains, such as this one, which are used on most of the company's Wemyss Bay services.

Bute residents and visitors using the train to connect with ferries at Wemyss Bay can now make use of free wireless internet access on trains serving the route.

Train operator First ScotRail enabled free wifi on Wednesday on the Class 380 trains which are used on most of the services between Glasgow and Wemyss Bay, Gourock, Largs and Ardrossan.

The company installed free wifi at Wemyss Bay and 20 other stations around Scotland in February, while Caledonian MacBrayne hopes to begin providing the service on board its ferries later this year.

A contract for the installation of equipment on board CalMac’s fleet is expected to be awarded soon, though no timescale has yet been set for specific routes or ships.
