A student from Rothesay has won a memorial prize at James Watt College set up to remember a past resident of Bute.

Thomas Moore received the Dean Maltman Memorial Award at the college’s graduation ceremony in Greenock.

The award, for academic excellence in technical support, was established after Dean, a past James Watt student, passed away in 2010.

Thomas and his partner Fiona Bruce, who now live in Port Glasgow with their two young children, both received awards at the ceremony – Thomas graduated with an HND in technical support, while Fiona received an HND in computer games development.

Fiona was also presented with the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) Award as well as the Ede and Ravenscroft Award.
