Rothesay Academy’s Bute Ladies football team were treated to a very special training session this week when former Academy pupil and 2012 Olympian Jane Ross put the girls through their paces at the Joint Campus.

Rothesay Jane, who currently plays for one of Europe’s leading women’s football clubs, Vittsjö GIK in Sweden, was back in the country for the Scottish women’s national team match against Poland on Saturday, April 5, which the ladies won 2-0.

During her preparations for the match Jane managed to find a few days to come back to the island, and was only too pleased to host a training session at the Academy for the girls in her second visit as part of the Winning Scotland Champions in Schools programme.

The innovative scheme was set up as a pilot in 2008, and places athletes in classrooms to deliver a series of inspirational workshops focusing on the life-long benefits of sport.
