A sudden and torrential downpour resulted in considerable flooding in Rothesay Joint Campus on Tuesday, May 27, and forced the postponement of Bute Community Band’s first solo concert.
Water flooded in to the school’s assembly hall, corridors, and several classrooms, including the school’s music classroom, pictured.
The campus’ phone system also failed, and janitorial and cleaning staff worked late into the evening to rid the school of water to ensure it would be safe for opening in the morning - which it was.
Argyll and Bute Council told us: ““Flash floods affected a number of properties in Rothesay on the night of Tuesday, May 27, including Rothesay Joint Campus. A team from Mitie responded swiftly and worked late into the evening to dry out some affected classrooms.
“On Wednesday, the school was open as normal and fully operational, with only a couple of classrooms unavailable and requiring further attention. Action to restore these is under way.
“ABC Schools and Mitie will also be looking at steps they can take to address the effects of any future flooding, including reviewing drainage measures.”
* The band’s concert has been rescheduled for Tuesday, June 3, at 7.30pm. Those who had already bought their tickets and are unable to attend will be able to get a full refund.
