First Bute Forest spring events are postponed

A busy programme of spring events in Bute's community-owned forest at Rhubodach gets under way this weekend.

The first instalments in a busy programme of spring events in Bute’s community-owned forest have been postponed due to adverse weather.

Local craftsman Ray Beverley had been due to lead an outdoor bench-making workshop on Saturday, March 23, but the organisers have decided to postpone the event due to the heavy snow which struck the island on Friday morning and the strong winds and low temperatures which are expected to last throughout the weekend.

The same fate has befallen a guided walk with forest manager Emma Cooper and head forester Ben Robinson, which was due to have been held on Sunday.

The bench-making workshop has, however, been rescheduled for Saturday, April 27.

Further events taking place during April and May include fairyland and bushcraft sessions for children, run in partnership with Stramash, on April 2, foraging with Mark Williams from Galloway Wild Foods on April 6 and further ‘walk and talk’ sessions looking at the forest’s wartime history, bird life and wild flowers, to name but a few.

Places at all Bute Forest’s spring events are free, but must be booked in advance. To book or find out more contact (01700) 500541, email emma@buteforest.com or click on the link to the right of this article.
