Fife Regatta to return to Bute this summer
SOME of the world’s most beautiful yachts will visit the waters around Bute this summer as the five-yearly Fife Regatta returns to the Clyde.
The invitation-only event will run from June 28 to July 5, and the participating yachts - travelling from as far afield as the USA and New Zealand - will berth in Rothesay Bay on the night of Sunday, June 30 after a race from Largs.
The 2013 regatta will be based at Largs Marina and will also include visits to Tighnabruaich, Portavadie and Otter Ferry.
The Fife yachts were designed and built by one of Scotland’s most famous boatbuilding dynasties at a yard in Fairlie during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Among the visitors to this year’s event will be the yachts Kentra and Astor, both celebrating their 90th birthdays - Kentra, an 80-foot Fife yacht stored in Fairlie for nearly seven years, is being relaunched for the regatta, and Astor will be coming all the way from California for the occasion.
