THE man behind the inaugural Isle of Bute Rainbow Festival of Folk is already looking forward to the next event in 2013 – despite attendances at the weekend-long event being lower than expected.

Though fewer members of the public than expected attended the festival in Port Bannatyne, which began on Friday evening and ran until Sunday night, organiser Lance Hatton told The Buteman there were plenty of positives to be taken from the weekend .

“The people who have attended have been really appreciative,” he said. “They’ve enjoyed themselves, they’ve enjoyed the bands and the atmosphere, and they’ve gone home happy.

“As far as I’m concerned it’s been a success. I’ve got lots of notes of things to learn, and I’m looking forward to next year and to using the experience gained from our first attempt.”

The event combined craft and community stalls and children’s play facilities during the day with live entertainment at night, including the Honeyboy Hicklin Band, the Lazarenkos and a Thin Lizzie tribute group.
