Fear of crime falls on Bute, says survey
Fear of crime on Bute has fallen by nearly half in the last 12 months, according to Strathclyde Police’s annual survey of island residents.
The service’s latest survey of public opinion, asking Bute residents what they believe the police’s top priorities should be, found that fear of crime has dropped to 6.7 per cent from a figure of 12 per cent last year.
The number of people who believe that car crime is a problem on the island has also fallen substantially, from 23 per cent in 2012 to only four per cent this time round.
Inspector Gordon Anderson, Strathclyde Police’s senior officer on Bute, told the Bute Community Safety Forum this week that the public’s view of the top policing priorities on the island had not changed, with drug dealing, drunk and disorderly behaviour, violent crime and speeding motorists topping the poll of one hundred respondents.
