Ex Rothesay pupil to make case for Yes vote on Bute

The Buteman's independence referendum debate will be held at Rothesay Joint Campus on Friday, May 30 at 7pm.

The Buteman's independence referendum debate will be held at Rothesay Joint Campus on Friday, May 30 at 7pm.

A former Rothesay Academy pupil will return to her old school later this month in the hope of persuading Bute to back a Yes vote in the independence referendum.

Rhiannon Spear is one of two speakers nominated by the Yes campaign on Bute to speak at The Buteman’s independence debate, taking place at Rothesay Joint Campus on Friday, May 30.

Rhiannon, a founder of Generation Yes, the pro-independence group run by, and aimed at, pupils, students and young voters, will be joined on the Yes side by the SNP’s Highlands and Islands regional MSP Mike Mackenzie.

“With my local background I’d like to think I’ll be able to speak in a bit more detail about the issues affecting Bute,” Rhiannon said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”

The Buteman has invited both Yes Scotland and Better Together, through their local representatives, to nominate two speakers for the event, though as this article was published, Better Together had yet to confirm the names of its two speakers.
