A hurricane has hit Bute. The island has been without power for six days, the temperature has dropped to minus four degrees Centigrade, and an emergency reception centre has been set up at Rothesay Pavilion, where a party of more than 20 schoolchildren has gone to make use of back-up power, hot food and overnight sleeping facilities.

Hang on, we hear you say: when did this happen? Have I slept in and missed all the drama? Well, don’t worry too much, because it hasn’t passed you by: to find out more about an emergency training scenario which provided vital training for all those involved, pick up your copy of The Buteman, on sale from Thursday, January 3.
