Disabled parking on Bute: offenders ‘won’t be prosecuted’

Drivers who leave their vehicles illegally in disabled parking bays in Rothesay are unlikely to be prosecuted at present, Bute Community Council was told this week.

Inspector Gordon Anderson, Strathclyde Police’s senior officer on the island, told BCC’s February meeting on Wednesday that the marking of disabled bays in the town was “very poor before, but even worse now”.

“Before we can enforce parking in disabled bays,” he said, “we need plates [on nearby poles or walls] and clear lines [on the road].

“If either are missing, we don’t enforce. We couldn’t legally enforce spaces where markings are so poor. For enforcement action to be taken lines need to be re-done.”

Island councillor Robert Macintyre promised to raise the subject with Argyll and Bute Council officials.
