Details published for Rothesay ‘Beautiful Scotland’ visit

DETAILS of the route to be followed by the two judges who will inspect Rothesay’s entry in the annual Beautiful Scotland competition have been announced.

Kate Stevenson and Lorna Much will visit on Thursday, August 2 to see if the town’s efforts this year match those of 2003, 2005 and 2010, when Rothesay won the medium town category, the horticulture and Sea Scotland awards and the top prize, the Rosebowl, respectively.

Their route will include visits to the Victorian Toilets, the Esplanade gardens, the Bridgend Street community garden, Apple Tree Nursery, St Andrew’s Primary School, the Grow Bute allotments, Rothesay Joint Campus, Bute Produce and Ardencraig Gardens.

In a joint statement, Bute’s three councillors, Len Scoullar, Robert Macintyre and Isobel Strong, said: “Apparently the judges are very keen that local businesses in the town being judged are seen to be aware of the judging and are supportive of the importance of winning the competition.

“The favoured way to do this, they feel, is for businesses to take part by putting floral decorations etc., outside their shops and businesses on the day they visit Rothesay for the competition.

“Therefore can we ask that shops and businesses in Montague Street, Victoria Street, Argyle Street, Albert Place, Guildford Square and the centre of town help the council’s efforts to get a good assessment from the judges.
