A Dunoon-based company has won a contract to carry out roof, roughcasting and external insulation works on Argyll Community Housing Assocation properties on Bute.

The contract, which was won by Stewart McNee Limited and also covers the Cowal area, is one of two awarded by the association this week, totalling £5.1 million.

The total works will see essential roof, roughcast and energy efficiency improvements to around three hundred homes owned by ACHA, including Bute properties located in Ardbeg Road, Longhill Terrace, Bush Avenue, Bush Road, Eden Drive and Columshill Place in Rothesay and in Bute Terrace and Kames Terrace in Port Bannatyne.

We asked ACHA whether any Bute firms had tendered for the work, and were told by the association’s chief executive Alastair MacGregor: “ACHA has a framework of contractors who provide roof and roughcast work to the Association. This four year framework (2010 to 2015) was publicly advertised through the public procurement process in November 2010 and based on our assessment criteria 11 contractors were added to our framework.

“When we have individual contracts ready we then tender them to the relevant contractors who are interested in that area of operation. For this contract, seven contractors were invited to tender; one of these was based in Bute, three based elsewhere in Argyll and three national companies.

“However, the Bute based contractor failed to return a tender for the work.”
