Court: Rothesay scooter man banned for drink-driving

A Rothesay man was banned from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 18 months at the town’s sheriff court on Monday after he admitted driving a motor scooter while under the influence of alcohol.

Joseph Greer (73), whose address was given as 4 Ferfadd Court, provided a breath sample with a reading of 89 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath after a civilian witness saw him come off his scooter in the Gallowgate at approximately 8.30pm on March 5.

The court was told that Greer parked his scooter after the incident, but was stopped by police when he returned to the scene half an hour later to collect his helmet.

Greer also admitted driving the scooter without a relevant licence and without insurance.

In addition to the 18-month ban, Sheriff Ruth Anderson imposed a £300 fine.
