Court: Ex-boyfriend told ‘you just have to accept it’

A man who placed his former partner in a state of fear and alarm by repeatedly contacting her after she broke off their relationship has been told to stay out of trouble for the next 12 months.

Michael Kemp (48), of 74 Lodgehill Road, Lower Bouring, Farnham, Surrey, admitted repeatedly contacting the woman, her father, brother and friend at an address in Hillhouse Road in Rothesay and elsewhere between February 7 and June 26 last year.

Mark Lovie, defending Kemp, told Rothesay Sheriff Court on Monday that arrangements had been made for the couple to marry in August 2011, but the date had been “put on hold” on or around February 7 that year, when the relationship ended.

On being told there had been no contact between the parties since Kemp was charged, Sheriff Ruth Anderson told him: “You’re not a daft boy. These things happen to most of us in our lives, and you just have to accept it and get on with things.”
