Community’s epic film tale is told on Bute

Two residents of a small Oxfordshire village which funded and produced its own feature-length film visited Bute this week to tell the story of a remarkable community effort.

Pat and Simon Dando – two villagers from Kingston Bagpuize who were heavily involved in the creation of the film ‘Tortoise in Love’ were present at the Discovery Theatre in Rothesay on Sunday night at the first screening of the 2012/13 Bute Film Club season.

“We have tremendous community spirit in Kingston Bagpuize, with lots of societies, Brownies, Scouts, things like that,” Simon said.

“Guy Browning [comedian and newspaper columnist], who lives in the village, said he’d had an idea for a film and that he’d written a screenplay – but that he wanted the village to come together and make it. I somehow ended up as executive producer!”
