Coach Jim is presented with British Empire Medal
Patrick Stewart, Lord Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute, presents Jim Ross with his British Empire Medal at Rothesay Castle.
Jim Ross, who retired in 2011 after more than 30 years passing on his football skills to the young people of Bute, was presented with his British Empire Medal on Saturday.
Jim, who played professionally with Ayr United, Partick Thistle and Kilbirnie Ladeside in the 1960s, was named as a BEM recipient in the Queen’s Birthday honours list in June in recognition of his services to the island’s young people.
He received his medal from Patrick Stewart, Lord Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute, in a ceremony at Rothesay Castle.
“You excelled at what you did,” Mr Stewart told the typically-modest Jim, “both here and in taking your young charges abroad, and I’m delighted and humbled to have met you.”
* More on Jim’s award in this week’s issue of The Buteman - on sale from Thursday, October 4.
