Cara’s top dog Proudia shines at Crufts

Former Bute resident Cara Kidd is celebrating success at the famous Crufts dog show in Birmingham.
Cara - possibly better known on Bute under her maiden name of Reynolds - breeds and exhibits Dogues de Bordeaux with her husband Alan, and was thrilled when one of her home-bred animals, Ascogcara Chariot of Fire, also known as Proudia, was given the second place junior bitch prize at the world-renowned event.
Proudia stole the show at the Scottish Kennel Club Championship at Ingliston last May, winning the prizes for the best junior bitch, best puppy bitch, best puppy in breed and reserve best bitch in breed - all at just seven months old.
Reacting to her Crufts second place, Cara, whose kennels are based at Stewarton in Ayrshire, told The Buteman: “We are over the moon with her achievement!”
Cara’s enthusiasm for the Dogue de Bordeaux breed stems from the 1989 Hollywood crime comedy Turner and Hooch, in which detective Scott Turner, played by Tom Hanks, is forced to adopt a dead man’s pet dog to help him solve a murder.
