Bute tourist officer takes on Three Peaks Challenge
Leo Plaster and his friend Fergus McIntosh plan to scale the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales - and cycle the five hundred miles in between - to raise cash for veterans' charity Erskine.
VisitBute tourism officer Leo Plaster has only been working on Bute for a few months - but next week he’ll be gettin on his bike and leaving the island.
But Leo’s not departing Bute for good: in fact he and his friend Fergus McIntosh are making final preparations for an epic journey across Britain by bike in aid of the veterans’ charity Erskine.
Leo and Fegus will begin the arduous Three Peaks Challenge - climbing the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales - on Tuesday, August 28. But the adventurous due will be doing it with a twist - they’ll be cycling the five hundred miles between the three mountains too.
Said Leo: “Climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis are challenges in themselves, but we wanted to take it a step further to raise money for Erskine, the veterans’ homes charity.
“We both have friends and family in the armed forces, and wanted to do something to show their support for the fantastic work they do.”
The pair will start their challenge at the bottom of Snowdon on August 28, and plan to finish the follwoing Saturday at the Commando Memorial near Spean Bridge after descending Ben Nevis.
