Bute Advice Centre has announced details of an SSE initiative giving free replacement gas/LPG/oil boilers, electric storage heaters and insulation measures.

If your boiler is still working it can be replaced, provided it is around ten years or older or has been faulty or unreliable in the past.

A technical survey will be carried out by SSE to determine whether a new boiler or boiler and radiators is needed. Once this is confirmed, it may take up to 12 weeks for installation.

You do not need to be a Scottish Hydro or SSE customer to apply. If you live in Argyll and Bute and meet the criteria, and are either a home owner or private tenant/landlord, you may apply.

Applicants must be able to provide proof of eligibility, i.e. an award letter from the DWP (if in doubt, check with ALIenergy staff at Bute Advice Centre); and provide proof of tenancy/ownership of the property (eg., copy of Tenancy Agreement, Lease or Title Deeds, or current mortgage statement).

In addition, tenants in private rented properties will also need to provide a letter from their landlord giving permission for the work to be carried out.

You may qualify if you meet the following criteria:

- are in receipt of pension credit or child tax credit with a relevant income below £15,860

- are in receipt of income based JSA or income based ESA or income support; and also receive disabled child premium, or have parental responsibility for a child aged under 16 who lives at the property, or have parental responsibility for a child aged 16 to 19, who lives at the property and is in full time education (not higher education, i.e university), or are in receipt of pension premium (including higher or enhanced), or receive child tax credit which includes a disability or severe disability element; disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium, or work-related activity or support component (income related ESA only)

- are in receipt of working tax credits and have a relevant income of under £15860 and have parental responsibility for a child aged under 16 who lives at the property or have parental responsibility for a child aged 16 to 19, who lives at the property and is in full time education (not higher education, i.e university)

- are in receipt of disabled worker element or severe disability element

- are aged 60 or over

Applications for this particular scheme should be submitted by no later than the end of March.

For further information, or to apply, please telephone Bute Advice Centre on (01700) 502784 to make an appointment with ALIenergy staff members Julie Semple or Alma Mickaill who will be happy to assist you.
