Bute power cuts not related, says supply firm

Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution says it does not believe three power cuts affecting Bute in the last week were related.

The company responsible for Bute’s electricity supply says it does not believe three power cuts in Rothesay in the space of the last week were related.

Two brief interruptions on Thursday and Friday - each around 60 seconds long - were followed by a cut at around 5pm on Sunday which left some 800 customers in the town without power for 40 minutes.

A spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Electric Power Distribution said: “Short interruptions of the kind experienced on Thursday and Friday are often caused by wind-blown debris, branches or other transient materials affecting overhead lines, and brief cuts in supply are required to clear any obstructions.

“The interruption on Sunday was caused by an object becoming lodged between two electrical connecting points in the Braeside area near the town.

“We do not believe it was linked to the earlier disruptions, and would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience and thank them for their patience.”
