Hopes of reopening Loch Fad on Bute to local and visiting anglers this weekend have been dashed as the man who runs the loch awaits replies to his appeals for help.
Hopes of reopening Jimmy Poole, from Loch Fad Fisheries, told The Buteman earlier this winter that he had hoped to reopen the loch at the beginning of February - but in an update this week, he said he was now aiming at an opening date in early March.
“We are still monitoring,” he said, “and can report that the pike caught recently have been of great quality and condition, which is good news for the moment.
“The scientists have told me I could reopen in November, December, January or February, but I decided to stay closed to prevent anything spreading to other fisheries around the area.”
