Peter Lewis-Smith has begun his descent from Everest base camp.

TWO GPs from Rothesay Health Centre have reached Mount Everest’s base camp on a charity fund-raising trek.

We received a text on Wednesday from Peter Lewis-Smith, confirming that he and his colleague Jennifer Pond had reached the Nepalese base camp, 17,600 feet above sea level.

Jennifer will remain at base camp over the summer to carry out volunteer work with a charity based at the site, while Peter, along with Jennifer’s husband, Ed Laughton, has now begun his descent.

Jennifer and Ed have undertaken the climb before, but Peter is taking on the trek for the first time and is raising funds for the British Liver Trust as he does so.

His efforts had raised £845 at the time of writing, according to his JustGiving page (link to the right of this article).
