Bute Forest’s future in focus at open event

Bute Forest's open event at Bute Museum this week attracted many interested members of the public.

Future plans for Bute’s community-owned forest went on public display at an open evening in Rothesay this week.

Bute Forest’s programme of spring events was unveiled in full for the first time, while members of the public were asked for their views on several design ideas for the proposed forest centre and lodge development in the forest at Rhubodach.

A steady stream of interested visitors attended the three-hour event at Bute Museum, and had the chance to meet some of the forest’s volunteers, as well as forest manager Emma Cooper, head forester Ben Robinson and directors of both Bute Forest Ltd and its parent, the Bute Community Land Company.

Bute Forest Ltd director Jim Mitchell told The Buteman: “We’re just at the point of going out to tender for an architect to do the main design work for the forest centre.

“The project is starting to gain momentum now - I feel that if we get all this right, we might have cracked it.”
