Bute Forest receives £10,913 enterprise grant
THE Bute Community Land Company has been given a £10,913 grant by Highlands and Islands Enterprise to assist with the development of the Bute Forest project at the north end of the island.
The grant represents a 40 per cent contribution by the enterprise company towards the £27,289 cost of new equipment – specifically a tractor to help move timber in the southern part of the 161 community-owned hectares occupied by commercially-planted forest.
Meanwhile, a new family-friendly foot trail through the commercial forest area, marked by rocks painted by members of the public, was opened on Thursday at an event which also featured a range of activities such as storytelling, wicker bug making and pond dipping.
The pond-dipping exercise is the first step in what will become a yearly pond survey at the site, to be carried out as a condition of a CSV Action Earth grant recently awarded to the forest.
