Members of the Isle of Bute Floral Art Club participated in the Roots, Shoots and Fruits flower festival held in Glasgow Cathedral to celebrate the launch of the 2014 Commonwealth Games on Monday, July 21.
Margaret-Rose Lyle, Gladys Bustin, Beck Reid, Ella Crawford and Mark Crawford all travelled to the cathedral on the Monday morning in order to complete an arrangement in front of the choir area of the cathedral. Combining local greenery from Bute with anthuriums, roses, chrysanthemums and carnations, the team faced the challenge of presenting a uniform arrangement along the full length of the stone balustrade directly behind the main altar.
Fifty-six clubs from all across Scotland had been asked to participate in the event which celebrated not only the sporting aspect of the Commonwealth Games but also Scottish history, explorers, missionaries, innovators and culinary delights. The flower festival was open to the public on July 23-24.
