Exactly one year after swimming the English Channel, Kevin Blick is ready to do it all again, all in aid of Bute charity Calum’s Cabin - except that this time, he’ll also be swimming the return journey!
We reported in August of last year that Kevin had successfully swum the channel in 14 hours and 54 minutes, in freezing temperatures and extremely strong currents.
Despite suffering from intense vomiting and mild hallucinations during the crossing, he’s geared up to swim it all over again, and then some!
Kevin told us: “I will soon be setting off again for another two way solo swim attempt from England to France and back again. [The] straight line distance between shortest points (if I am lucky enough to hit these) is 42 Miles (67km).”
This year, Kevin expects to be in the water for around 30 hours depending on the weather conditions, and if he is successful, will be the oldest swimmer to have completed the journey.
Kevin’s swim last year raised over £11,000, and helped Calum’s Cabin provide respite for 6 months and 26 families.
