Bute care bed ‘market test’ results due soon
The level of private sector interest in providing extra nursing care beds and sheltered housing on Bute is expected to become clearer in April.
A spokesperson for Argyll and Bute Council told The Buteman this week that the authority was “progressing a market test” to see whether independent providers are interested in providing additional capacity, both on Bute and in other areas of the council.
The results of that market test are expected to be considered by the council’s special committee on adult services in April.
The authority has also moved to play down concerns that its planned closure of the Struan Lodge care home in Dunoon will have a major impact on the provision of respite beds in the Bute and Cowal area and potentially force carers in the area to travel to Lochgilphead.
“None of the private care home providers in Bute and Cowal has a dedicated respite bed,” the spokesperson told The Buteman, “but they will take respite residents if they have a vacancy.
“Given the level of surplus capacity in Bute and Cowal it would be highly unlikely anyone would suggest transporting service users to Lochgilphead for respite.”
