The first ever Bute Studio Trail which sees artists on Bute open the doors to their studios for the viewing public took place on September 22-23 - and from what we’ve been told, it was a massive success.

More than 20 artists participated in the event, in several locations around the island including St Paul’s Church Hall, Port Bannatyne Veg Shop, Ballianlay and the Boatyard.

A huge variety of mediums were on view for the public - from watercolours to oil-based paintings, silversmith works, ceramics, furniture making, prints and blacksmith works.

The wealth of talent to be found on the island was quite remarkable - for many of the artists, they’re retired and now have the time to devote to something which they had previously considered a hobby.

For others, their passion has become their career and is a labour of love.

A large number of visitors stopped at the various studios over the weekend - Port Bannatyne Veg Shop reported that on Saturday alone, they had 160 individuals across the door.

All artists we spoke to said they’d been delighted by the response they’d had from members of the public and indeed the levels of support they received for the event itself.
