Bute Advice Centre in volunteer appeal

Bute’s independent advice and information service is appealing for volunteers to join its band of helpers.

Bute Advice Centre, originally formed in 1984 under the auspices of Bute Community Council, has always been an extremely busy and vitally important organisation within the island community.

Since gaining independent charitable status and becoming an independent organisation in 1990, that time they have helped thousands of Bute residents with a whole variety of problems, ranging from consumer issues, housing problems, disability, debt difficulties, welfare and benefit problems.

Centre manager Gordon Sutherland said: “In the present economic climate, the services of the Advice Centre are needed more than ever – more and more people are struggling to make ends meet and many of them are not receiving the benefits to which they are entitled.

“There are resident part-time staff at the centre, but the work of Bute Advice Centre depends heavily on volunteers.

“Some of the loyal and long-serving volunteers have retired in recent times and the organisation is now very keen to recruit new faces to help with their vitally important work in the community.

“If you feel you can give a little of your time to help others, perhaps just a few hours per week, then please contact the Centre at 13 Argyle Street, Rothesay or phone (01700) 502784 to arrange a chat.”
