‘Awkward questions’ await over Ardbeg Point

The results of soil testing carried out at Ardbeg Point are expected to be announced soon.

“Awkward questions” await officials of Scottish Water and George Leslie Ltd at a site meeting on Bute next month over the condition of a public recreation area on the island.

So says Isle of Bute councillor Robert Macintyre, who is expecting the results of soil analysis from Ardbeg Point to be published soon.

George Leslie Ltd used Ardbeg Point as a site office and equipment base during work done on behalf of Scottish Water to connect homes in Ardbeg and Port Bannatyne to the Rothesay sewerage network.

Both parties promised the area would be returned to its previous natural state when the project was finished - but the condition of the surface has concerned many local residents since the contract was completed in December 2011.

The analysis was carried out by Andrew Leggate from SRUC (formerly the Scottish Agricultural College) at Auchincruive in Ayr.

Cllr Macintyre said: “I understand Mr Leggate’s findings will be made available in the next couple of weeks, and I have asked that all three Bute councillors receive a copy of his report when it is published.

“I believe this will lead to awkward questions for both Scottish Water and George Leslie Ltd when they have a site meeting with council officials in early March.”
