The operators of Bute’s food bank hope to provide some extra Christmas cheer for 115 island families over the forthcoming festive season.
Bute Advice Centre and its non-profit partner Bute Oasis launched their second annual Christmas appeal this week - and as well as providing food hampers for the island’s most vulnerable families, they are appealing for donations both of cash and of Christmas gifts for children.
Angela Callaghan, the founder of Bute Oasis, said: “With your help we plan to provide Christmas hampers to 115 families who otherwise may go without and for whom Christmas is not something to look forward to.”
To help raise funds for the appeal - and for the food bank’s normal activities over the festive season - Bute Oasis has booked the cinema at the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre for a special screening of the Christmas classic ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ on Sunday, December 13.
There’s also a bag-packing day in the local Co-operative supermarket in Bridge Street this Saturday, December 5, while donations of cash and gifts for the appeal can be handed in to the Bute Oasis shop in Argyle Street - where tickets for the special film night are also available - ahead of the delivery of the hampers on December 23.
