The UK correspondent of France’s Le Figaro newspaper visited Bute this week to get a feel for the Scottish independence debate away from the big cities.

Florentin Collomp met several prominent locals, including island councillors Isobel Strong and Len Scoullar and Rothesay businessman and Bute Community Council secretary (and former Conservative council candidate) Peter Wallace during his short visit to the island, in the hope of painting a picture of the thoughts, hopes and fears of the island ahead of the independence referendum on September 18, 2014.

Founded in 1826 and published daily in Paris, Le Figaro is France’s second-largest national newspaper, and is the country’s oldest still-existing newspaper.
